DESTINATION PUERTO PLATA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC The north coast of the Dominican Republic is on the Atlantic side, and thus the sea is more suitable for energetic watersports than for novice swimmers. Windsurfers, particularly in Cabarate, will be in seventh heaven. All beaches in the country are public, and in this area they are of coarse sand. The Playa Dorada vacation complex, just east of Puerto Plata, is where you will find the main resort hotels of Puerto Plata, along with three casinos, an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones golf course, bike trails, landscaped gardens and an excellent beach for water sports. Interesting sights include Victorian-styled homes and the Amber museum. The Beaches are a must see in Sosua. Sosua offers two kilometers of white sand wrapped around a tranquil cove. This cozy town offers a variety of water sports, catamaran tours, restaurants and nightlife.
The North Coast of the Dominican Republic has become known as the “Amber Coast” for its abundance of amber deposits. Shoppers will find great deals on amber jewellery as well as other favourite items such as wicker, hand-painted masks, ceramics, Dominican art, woven goods and mahogany carvings.
RESORT OVERVIEW The Gran Ventana Beach Resort is a sleek, spacious, 506-room, all-inclusive resort with an enviable location on the golden sands of Playa Dorada in Puerto Plata. This wonderful beach resort offers a distinctive blend of sophisticated design combined with the charm and hospitality of the Dominican Republic.
The hotel is situated within the Playa Dorada Tourist Complex, the largest and most complete tourist development in Dominican Republic and just a block away from the Playa Dorada Commercial Center, which has the some of the best bars and discos in the Puerto Plata area. Downtown Puerto Plata is just minutes away. The resort is also just 300 yards from the Playa Dorada Golf Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The resort’s lobby extends with beamed ceilings and a view of the ocean as its centrepiece. The gardens and lawns surrounding the site are dotted with gazebos, flowering shrubs, and tropical plants and palms. The resort is spread across 247 acres of ocean-fronting land that’s divided into three distinctly defined “villages”, the quietest and calmest of which is the Beata Wing, which is just a bit removed, but easily accessible on foot to the more animated Catalina and Saona clusters.
