DESTINATION JAMAICA
-
"One love..." Jamaica continues to charm and entice so many visitors year after year with it's miles of soft powder sand beaches bordered by dramatic mountain ranges, lush colourful vegetation and azure seas tinted with every imaginable shade of blue.
-
Jamaica: the island is beautiful, the culture is bold. It's a mosaic of people, sun and time. A place of inspiration, celebration and relaxation.
-
It is the exquisite home of the Blue Mountains and deep red sunsets. When Columbus first set foot on Jamaica, he declared it "the fairest isle mine eyes ever beheld."
-
Drawn to the creative spirit of the people and the culture, rock stars and matinee idols have long made Jamaica their playground. Visitors will find it all here in the sights and sounds of this legendary island.
-
Beyond the shimmering sands and turquoise seas is an endless paradise...there's the inescapable rhythm of the reggae backbeat in the shops and streets of the bustling towns. It's the music of a culture and the soundtrack to life on the island. It's an irresistible invitation to dance and enjoy the long, languid days in Jamaica.
-
Jamaica has idyllic water conditions perfect for scuba diving, snorkeling and sport fishing. It is the home of world-renowned golf courses, lush tropical Botanical Gardens, magnificent waterfalls, colourful markets or bamboo rafting down lazy rivers...the list goes on!
-
Here is the Flower of the West Indies....a lush green island floating in the warm Caribbean Sea where every t'ing is "irie"!
-
On the western most tip of the island, you'll find Negril. Due to its location, Negril's blessed with big-screen quality sunsets, each more spectacular than the last, which you can enjoy from front row seating along its seven mile stretch of fine, white powder sand beaches. A great network of cliffs, coves and roral reefs is a special treat for divers and snorkelers.
-
'The Road to Negril' is now a comfortable and scenic new highway that hugs the curves of the island and gets folks from Montego Bay to Negril in only one hour providing gorgeous scenic oceanviews the entire journey.
RESORT OVERVIEW
-
A unique and inviting laid back vibe await you at Sunset at the Palms Resort and Spa.
-
Award winning for their distinctive design and environmental integrity, the 85 guest rooms are 'in the trees', built on stilts throughout 10 acres of tropical gardens.
-
Sunset at the Palms is tranquil and very respectful of nature, making it a very popular hideaway for those seeking to get away, kick back and truly relax. Some singles and a few families travel here but the clientele tends to be mostly couples.
-
Beautiful, warm cedar abounds from the pool deck to the cathedral ceilings in the lobby and little bridges in the gardens. The great energy that was 'Negril Cabins' has been recreated as Sunset at the Palms that boasts a brand new spa and fitness centre.
-
The property manages to blend harmonously with the tropical environment. River rock beds and Asian-inspired gardens add to the peaceful environment of this small all-inclusive hotel.
-
Recipient of many environmental 'Green Awards', the atmosphere is tranquil and serene. Drawing from the laid-back feel of it's prime location in desirable Negril, this quaint property has the friendly, unobtrusive ambience which can only be found in a smaller hotel.
-
Like many properties in the area, the beach and new beach club (complete with grill, bar and bathroom facilities) are located across the street. This is no deterrent as it's less than 2 min's from the pool and main areas, closer in fact than most 'beachfront' resorts are to the beach. Actually, the beach and gardens in this section can be seen from the main lobby across the way and the calm, turquoise waters and powder soft white sand beckon....
-
Resort is approximately 1 hr from Montego Bay airport. Transfers are the responsibility of instructor. Shuttle bus is $20 USD/person/direction.
FACILITIES/AMENITIES
Features are subject to change and availability. Reservations may be required for specific restaurants and activities. Check locally.
-
With the emphasis being on rest and relaxation, the activities at this 4 star all-inclusive hotel are more limited as the focus is this the goal is to provide a soothing escape. NRG2GO Yoga and Pilates classes will complement the Spa and Fitness Centre which are the main focus of this peaceful hotel. The Palms is the most quiet of all our contracts - no Entertainment Staff & no activities. The clients go there just to R&R so the instructors travelling here need to be really pro-active and creative with their promotion of the program and comfortable in this more independent role. As a result of this quiet ambience, it's particularly important for instructors to be friendly and outgoing as introducing themselves to the clients is the best way to bring clients into the classes.
-

Award-winning for their distinctive design, the 85 guest rooms are arranged in 43 tree-house style, all-natural wood cabins on stilts. Note: the instructors stay will be in one of the standard, unremodelled rooms which looks the same from the outside as all the others but is more basic and less modern in decor. These standard rooms are clean and comfortable not the renovated ones shown on the Sunset web site with upgraded amenities and posh bathrooms. Pictures of the standard cabins are shown here.
-
One king or two double beds, air conditioning, ceiling fans, satellite TV, full bath with hair dryers, iron, ironing board, coffee maker/tea kettle, balcony or verandah.
TEACHING SCHEDULE
-
Classes are Monday-Friday.
-
Sample schedule:
-
8:00am Cardio Interval or Pilates or Yoga/Pilates (studio). For example, this class could be a Yoga On The Ball Fusion for example, (Yoga, Pilates and Sculpt), or, depending on requests and instructor's training, it could include a cardio segment (but does not necessarily need to). Mornings tend to be the best time to offer more invigorating formats.
-
11:30am Aqua Stretch (pool or beach). The pool can be very quiet during the day, and in certain seasons the (pool) water temperature may be cool, with few guests to draw from in order to create a class. At times like this, many of the clients prefer being at the beach. It all depends on the season, the occupancy and the guests. The instructor may choose to hold this class at the beach, as it is ideal with it being smooth (no drop off close to shore), calms, no rocks and the sand so very soft. The location of the class would need to be communicated to the gym/spa staff each day to avoid any miscommunications.
-
6:00pm Mind/Body Stretch (studio). By this time of the day most guests don't want an intense workout, so more of a gentle stretch is recommended. It's held at 6:00pm instead of 5pm so as to encourage the staff to attend. Again, it can be a fusion format or more of a straight yoga, stretch or pilates class depending on the clients feedback/requests.
-
At this resort, with there being no Activity Staff, instructors can adjust the class formats (not the times) as they see fit during the week. These types of changes should also be communicated to the Spa/Gym and front desk staff to avoid any miscommunications.
