HIGH SEASON TRAVEL & OVER-OCCUPANCY SITUATIONS

‘High Season’ weeks in the Caribbean include the following periods:

Christmas, New Year's and March/Spring Breaks are peak high season weeks. Generally these ‘peak season’ weeks are much in demand and fill fast. All instructors requesting any of the above ‘high season’ or ‘peak season’ weeks of travel should be aware of the following:

  1. Airlines will inflate their prices during high season often as much as double that of their regular 'air only' rates.
  2. Most contracts do not allow instructors during Christmas/New Yrs or March Break periods because their stay can't usually be confirmed by their reservation departments. For new resorts however, this is not usually an issue.
  3. Resorts run at full capacity and often over-occupancy during Christmas/New Yrs and March Break weeks. Some people enjoy this busy-ness others prefer going to resorts when they aren't as full.

OVER-OCCUPANCY - There's always a chance of resorts having to 'bump' the instructor or other guests for that matter to alternate resorts (accommodations of similar standard) during periods of high occupancy. This is a reality of travel in general, any week of the year, but more commonly happens during high seasons. These situations are rare but do happen. If this is was to occur, the instructor's privileges would not change and transportation is arranged by resort (where necessary). Instructors must be prepared for this, should it happen.
